Tonight we sat at the table signing paperwork and waiting for the California agency to call us. Once they did, we spent quite a while on the phone asking questions about the birth mom, and discussing how this whole situation would work. Some of the things we learned were that our agency has worked with this California agency for at least 20 adoptions so far. The other (super encouraging!) thing is that this agency has had experience with this birth mother and spoke very highly of her.
But while talking to the agency, they dropped a bomb on us... "You'll need to write us a check for $9,000 to cover our agency fee, and between $11,000-$13,000 to cover birth mom's living expenses." (This is in addition to the $6,500 for our agency, plus attorney fees, and travel costs. The estimated total cost for this adoption is $34,000+).
We are about $7,000 short of the minimum amount we'd need to send the agency. Our options are: we can either tell the mother we can't accept this match, or we can pray for a miracle.
It feels crazy to ask people to help us raise $7,000 in a few days, but here goes nothing!
Please pray with us that God will give us clarity and wisdom. We don't want to pursue this if we're not supposed to.
If you feel that you would like to help, you can donate via paypal here:
(The reason I am posting the paypal donate button instead of our AdoptTogether account, is that the AdoptTogether funds can only be released once a month at the beginning of the month. If we receive donations to pursue this birth mom, we'd need to send in the funds ASAP.)
Thanks for reading!
